Sailing trips from Truro. Our 2019 season.

At anchor at Trelissick, at the southern end of the River Fal

Our sailing season 2019 has come to an end. Although our tours are very dependent on the weather we are happy to say we were out on the water for almost all of our planned sailing trips. The River Fal is beautiful whether it is spring, summer or autumn and each part of the season offers unique experiences. We both have a real passion for the River Fal, its nature and heritage and are already looking forward to new adventures in 2020.

We want to thank all of you who joined us onboard this year. It was truly lovely to meet you and for us to see you enjoying what we offer. Many of you took the time to add to our reviews on TripAdvisor, Google and Facebook for which we are very grateful. As we are a recent addition to the Truro/Falmouth area and this being our first full season on the water, your feedback will help to spread the word that our sailing trips are one of the finest ways to discover the River Fal.

We had family days out on the water, birthday/anniversary celebrations, picnics at anchor, wild swimming, individuals joining our ‘share the sail’ trips, friend get togethers, romantic tours the list goes on.

Because we aim to harness the wind as much as possible during our sailing trips we can say that every one of the trips was a unique experience. Our trips are moulded by nature, being the wind and tide. It brings an enchanting aspect to our tours which we think allows people to absorb the true nature of the River. The experience is not only about the River Fal though, it is also about experiencing being under sail onboard a traditional sailing barge. Our barge is similar to those that fished and carried cargos 100 – 200 years ago.

So what of our plans for the winter? Since we purchased ‘Drifter’ in 2017 we have been strategically restoring her. Building on work we have already done in the previous winter, we will continue to bring the barge to a truly beautiful condition. This winter will see the teak coach roof replaced. Also the wooden spars, leeboards and other parts will be treated to a strip back and re-varnishing. The hull will also be repainted. This work will all be done out of the water but we also hope to be back on our winter berth at the town quay in Truro city to enjoy the winter festivities. Pop by and say hello if you happen to be in the area.

Thank you once again for choosing to sail with us onboard Drifter. Happy travels to all!
