Our 2020 sailing season is due to start in May and end in September.

We are keeping ourselves well informed and guided by the government with regard to COVID-19, and will be following any advisories or restrictions accordingly.

It is already clear that controls put in place (and their likely duration) will severely affect our ability to offer sailing trips throughout 2020.

Although Drifter’s seating area is spacious compared to other sailing boats, all of us onboard will still be in closer proximity to each other than the social distancing guidelines allow. The duration of our sailing trips is also a factor, meaning greater opportunity for anybody onboard carrying the virus to spread it to others.

It would not be right for us to encourage people to come together on our ‘share-the-sail’ trips, or for us to host private hire trips with the governments guidelines in force.

We will be informing all of our clients that have already booked trips with us that we may not be able to sail and will be offering refunds. This will certainly be the case for trips in May. In June. Unless restrictions are significantly eased it will also be unlikely that we will be in a position to offer any sailing trips during 2020.

We know how much people love sailing onboard Drifter and touring the beautiful River Fal, its landmark locations and the shorelines of the estuary. We are very sorry that we may not be able to share this with you for part or all of this season.

We are passionate about the nature and heritage of what is one of Cornwall’s most beautiful locations, and experiencing it quietly under sail adds a very special charm as well as a closer connection to the nature of the river with its never ending ebb and flow.

We will still be in the river throughout most of the season as we live aboard and also work for the local port authority. Please consider subscribing to our news and blog for regular stories and pictures from the water and for any updates with regard to changes to circumstances regarding COVID-19.

For those that have purchased or received vouchers we can assure you that we will honor them when we can, alternatively you can return them to us for a refund.

Please feel free to contact us at https://sailingbargedrifter.co.uk/#contact to ask any questions about our sailing trips.

We would like to offer our sincerest best wishes to you all during what will be a very difficult time ahead. We also send our heartfelt gratitude to our hard working NHS staff, all those involved with health care and our many key workers. Keep safe all!
