We are very much looking forward to 2021 and are busy preparing our traditional sailing barge for another season of river trips and tours.

From the Spring, you will again be able to join us on-board ‘Drifter’. During 2020, we adapted our barge layout and what we do on the water and feel confident that this year we will be able to share with you the enchanting, winding and sheltered reaches of the river.

What a strange season 2020 has been for us as it has for everyone. Although we were moored in the River Fal throughout most of the summer in the hope that at some point social distancing rules might have been relaxed enough for us to do our sailing trips, sadly this never came to be.

There have been many that were very keen to sail with us this year and we want to thank those who bought experience vouchers for themselves or for loved ones for being patient with us through 2020, and who are now holding onto them until next year. Also we want to thank the many phone and email enquirers, we hope we helped you to find another way to get out onto the water. We also want to send our gratitude to those who visited and browsed our website in search of a boat tour and chose to follow us on social media or subscribe to our blog for updates. It all means a great deal to us.

On 23rd June, Boris Johnson announced easing of the Coronavirus restrictions within England from the 4th July. In particular, general social distancing will be reduced to a minimum of 1m+ and many tourism/hospitality based businesses can begin to reopen.

Our 2020 sailing season is due to start in May and end in September.

We are keeping ourselves well informed and guided by the government with regard to COVID-19, and will be following any advisories or restrictions accordingly.

It is already clear that controls put in place (and their likely duration) will severely affect our ability to offer sailing trips throughout 2020.

It is mid March 2020. The weather throughout this winter has been mostly cold, wet and windy. Drifter has been protected from the worst of it by placing her under cover in an open ended shed at a boatyard near Plymouth. This type of facility is useful, but is few and far between in the UK so we were very pleased to find a suitable space in one of the sheds at the friendly Voyager boat yard at Millbrook, on the Cornish side of the River Tamar. Here we have been working most days since November on our beautiful barge.
