The River Fal is an enchanting river, with steep densely wooded banks along most of its length. Although not wide, it is very deep in parts allowing large ships to sometimes moor within or navigate to Truro for cargo.

The River Fal is a place of highs and lows. Not in the emotional sense, but in a very visual and physical sense.  The twice daily tides altering the picturesque shorelines of this unspoiled river always give us an excited anticipation of what will be revealed or hidden depending on the hour of the day.

The forecast is for sun and light breezes. Our passengers, a family of four on holiday in the area,  join us at Falmouth Marina. We don’t hesitate to leave the dock and within minutes we are under sail in Falmouth harbour. We have set our mainsail and foresail, and lower a leeboard into the water.…
